Bumpy maiden voyage

We took my husband's new smartplane for a maiden flight today and had several problems. He went through the startup procedure before leaving the house, but once we got to the park the app updated the plane's firmware unexpectedly over 5 times. His iphone also consistently lost connectivity with the plane as soon as it got more than around 50 feet away. Do you have any advice? We also had a hard time controlling it and it mostly circled. I think the rudder is off-kilter, and I am going to try to bend it back into place.
Please, make sure that SmartPlane is charged fully for first flight. Switch needs to be turned ON in order to charge.

Flight range can vary due to respective conditions depending on weather, obstacles etc.

If the rudder seems to move not correctly, check if it is stuck somewhere to the hinge.
