Flight range can vary due to respective conditions depending on weather, obstacles etc.
If the rudder seems to move not correctly, check if it is stuck somewhere to the hinge.

did you charge the plane to 100% before you made your first attempt to connect it to the phone? Please, make sure the switch is turned ON while charging. Otherwise it won't charge.
